Welcome
The Clumber Spaniel League Victoria is Australia's first ever Clumber club, despite the breed arriving in Australia in 1883. The first pair came to Victoria direct from the ancestral home of Nottinghamshire's Clumber Park in the northern reaches of the famous Sherwood Forest.
The CSLV was founded in September 1997 at the Melbourne Royal by Jan Irving, Lisa Franke and An Cerato, who were soon joined by Sandra Sanim, and Dorothy Chisman. In April 2004, the centenary year for the UK's own Clumber club, the Victorian Canine Association accepted the CSLV affiliation application.

Major work was undertaken in 2004 to raise a minimum saving fund of $2400 to cover the equivalent of ten years' affiliation and incorporation fees, and then attention will turn to health and rescue funds. The first shows will be held in Skye on July 10th 2005.

Foundation members were Jan Irving, Lisa Franke, & An Cerato
Inaugural members were Sandra Sanim & Dorothy Chisman

while the website is being rebuilt - please excuse the chaos. The old website is accessible through www.erinrac.com/cslvOLD for the time being

this is your site administrator, there are things that niggle me about this system, so I plan to write a simpler and easier to use membership site. In the meantime watch here for major announcements, etc

RESEARCH SUPPORT REQUEST

Roe is of course instrumental in the Clumber Spaniel Health Foundation and a successful breeder & exhibitor of Clumbers (BlueMoons prefix, USA) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ As I'm sure you have heard, I'm working for the Van Andel Research Institute now.  We are intensely focused on hemangiosarcoma research, along with four other cancers (lymphoma, osteosarcoma, melanoma and malignant histioctyosis).   I am really trying to boost sample recruitment. We need blood samples and/or dna from Clumbers who have or have had hemangiosarcoma.  Any help you can give us in this respect will be greatly appreciated.   Talk to you soon, Roe   Roe Froman, DVM Senior Veterinary Research Scientist Van Andel Institute 333 Bostwick Ave NE Grand Rapids, MI  49503 616.234.5556 www.vai.org/helpingdogs check for more info 2010-03-16

Our Championship show attracted 17 entries, which is consistent with the entries fro the past five championship shows. We would welcome more entries, and strive to accommodate the busy lifestyles of Clumber owners across Australia by moving the show each year - always in the cool months of April to October to allow safe road travel without excessive heat. We also choose to exhibit at the state's best grounds with fabulous lawns and a superb indoor complex, as well as contract overseas judges.

SHOWING IN VICTORIA

Revitalising Shows – Exhibitor Arrangements
Following the meetings of the Management Committee held in January and February this year, a number of important decisions have been made, which I list below for the attention of members.
These decisions have been made with the best interests of all exhibitors in mind. The Committee has received a consistent stream of complaints over recent months concerning crowding around the rings, crowded (and sometimes dangerous) parking arrangements, and a general level of concern about selfish behaviour in the way some exhibitors set up around the rings to the detriment of everyone attending.
The following arrangements now apply:
1. All marquees are to be set up with the narrow side to the ring, to minimise large set-ups to the exclusion of many other exhibitors.
2. No-one is permitted to set up prior to the day of the show, and in the event of it being a double show, prior to the day of the first show.
3. All signed parking directions are to be strictly adhered to, and members who fail to park safely, or who park in no-parking areas may have wheel clamps and other obstructions applied.
4. Plastic tape must be used for all evening shows, to increase visibility. The Management Committee appreciates that twilight shows are becoming increasingly popular, and in addition to any chain or rope set-up, white tape must be placed on the ground for outdoor twilight shows.
I hope that with these directions, exhibitors can continue to enjoy shows free of inconsiderate ring set up and car parking behaviour.

NEW BREED STANDARD

The English Kennel Club have released the revised breed standard for the Clumber, under current ANKC policies this standard will be adopted in Australia. The major alterations/changes are in essence in the choice of words rather than a wholesale change in type or form. Checked out changes in General Appearance (reference to condition and purpose), Head and Skull (removal of the word massive), Eyes (free from all obvious eye problems), Forequarters (now moderation in bone size), Body (now moderately long AND well muscled rather than looking for extreme depth), and Weight (a reduction in the ideal weight for the male by 5% and a range is given rather than one figure). check for more info 2009-01-13
